In your vehicle’s exhaust system, the exhaust manifold is located between the engine cylinder head and the catalytic converter. The purpose of the manifold is to collect dangerous emissions and gases produced by the engine during the combustion process. The manifold contains an oxygen sensor that tells the engine control unit to increase or decrease the amount of oxygen in the fuel.
A failure of an exhaust manifold can be very damaging to your engine if it’s not taken care of. A cracked exhaust manifold gasket can cause an exhaust valve to be burned. This can damage plastic parts in the engine area. It can also become a health hazard, as the exhaust fumes can enter the car’s cabin as well.
