RECALL ISSUED FOR POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS TAKATA AIRBAGS : Affecting all the major car manufacturers, the federal government has issued a recall on the faulty Takata airbags. The recall has immensely affected brands such as, Honda, BMW, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Toyota, Tiida, and Nissan. The recall has been followed after the Takata airbags were investigated and found without drying agent. Moreover, the airbags have design flaws which can lead to mis-deployment or serious injuries in case of accidents.
QUEENSLAND RELEASES 19,000 SQUARE KM GAS ACREAGE : Following the media statements from Minister for State Development and Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Queensland the acreage for the exploration of gas and to identify new-age minerals. The program has been initiated to support local power manufacturing, generate LNG royalties and renewable energy boom. The government has invited competitive tenders from reliable resource companies.
AFTER BULL BARS FACING A BAN, MP CALLS FOR AN EXEMPTION : In the countryside, bull bars are necessary as the dry weather gets the wild animals on the roads. This poses a lot of risk to the wildlife, the vehicles and the occupants. After opposition from the road safety experts and bull bars not being compliant to Australian Design Rules – the bull bars were clamped down before achieving an exception till 2019. Currently, the Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall wants that exception order to be permanent.
2017 SURVEY COMMUNITY ATTITUDES TO ROAD SAFETY : The Australian Government has commenced a survey to test the new factors for road safety. In the survey, views on key major issues like drug-impaired driving and heavy vehicles on the roads will be focussed upon – for the first time. AUTONOMOUS CARS TO HIT CALIFORNIA ROADS NEXT YEAR : Around 42 companies are testing 285 self-driven cars in the state. The California Department of Motor Vehicles has released revised regulations on deploying autonomous vehicles on public roads safely. The news has come as a good news for companies like Uber and Google, who are themselves developing a fleet of autonomous cars for public use.
Amidst the advocacy to improve the public transport access for people with disabilities, the Victorian Government has announced a major cut on rego for them. The Andrews Labor Government has cut the cost of registration for significantly modified vehicles for the disabled drivers. Now, they can apply for 100% concession.
