Finding a car to suit your budget can be tricky. The purchase price is one thing, but what about ongoing running costs? There is no arguing about the reason people choose a small car –the price, from the dealership showroom to ongoing road costs. Australia’s most affordable car list has been unveiled to own and run in 2019 in Australia. In their recent ‘Driving Your Dollars’ survey, RACV has light up the running cost of popular new cars, finding that the cost of vehicle ownership is rising. Driving Your Dollar survey finds the cheapest small, light and micro vehicles to own and run.
RACV 2019 survey based on the cost of fuel, maintenance, depreciation, registration, insurance, and car loan repayments over a five-year ownership period. For the Survey, RACV has examined 13 popular models across micro, light, and small cars category. As per RACV, over the 1-year cost of running a car has increased by 0.8% to an average per week.
The Survey has revealed that Kia Rio has been ranked at the top as the cheaper car to run. The five-door hatch Kia Rio has topped the list with the cost of $115 weekly. The second-most affordable to run is also a light car, the Suzuki Swift GL five-door hatch at $118 a week.
